San Rafael, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)— To better understand the current state of test strategies and technologies, Keysight Technologies, Inc. ,a leading technology company that provides advanced design and validation solutions to help accelerate innovation for connecting and securing the world, announced the findings of a global study commissioned by Keysight and conducted by Forrester.

75 percent of organisations are using a combination of automated and manual testing, according to a study entitled Conquer Testing Complexities with Automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI). 11 percent of companies have a fully automated strategy, however. There are 77% more tests as complexity rises, and without automation, product development is slowed down.

When asked about the future, companies express a desire to do more test automation than they have in the past, according to Jeff Harris, vice president of portfolio and global marketing at Keysight Technologies: Without AI-powered automation, manual or partially automated strategies cannot keep pace with the demands of today's organisations. The COVID pandemic is expected to drive the adoption of remote development and automated test sequencing. A greater reliance on digital twins is also to be expected, as development teams strive to remain connected, even if they are working from different geographical regions. To meet these demands and advance test and validation automation, Keysight is automating intelligence across the workflow in all of our software products.

Long testing cycles, accurate bug and issue detection, and correcting them are the main technical challenges resulting from testing complexity. These issues have a direct bearing on the company's performance and the creation of new products. Respondents' top choices were:

  • Security breach risk is at a level of 51%.
  • Expenses rose by a whopping 48 percent.
  • Slower time to market: 42%
  • Defective goods make up 36% of the total.
  • Loss of revenue of 34%

The increasing complexity of products means that manual and semi-automated testing methods are no longer sufficient. A 409 percent increase is expected in the next three years from the current 45 percent of respondents who plan to use fully automated processes. AI was mentioned by more than half of respondents (52 percent), representing a 325 percent increase in the number of companies considering it for the integration of complex test suites

Organizations are hoping to reap the benefits of adopting intelligent automated testing strategies. Improvements in productivity (59%) and the ability to simulate product function or performance (54%) were cited as the most anticipated operational improvements by respondents (53 percent ). Business impact is expected to include increased customer satisfaction (59 percent), reduced time to market (50 percent), more agile product development cycles, and a more efficient use of resources (50 percent ).
