Illinois’ COVID-19 case rate, hospitalizations decline

65% of Illinois residents are now considered fully vaccinated

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 13,798 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 12 additional deaths for Friday, Saturday and Sunday combined. IDPH does not update its data dashboard on weekends.

For Friday-Sunday, the state administered 29,688 vaccines.
From the IDPH’s data dashboard:
Case rate per 100,000: 36.4 (-0.2 from Friday) (-0.2 from Friday)
Percentage of ICU beds available: 24 percent

There were 1,191 COVID-19 patients in the hospital in Illinois as of late Sunday, a decrease of 36 patients compared to Friday. Sixty-six people on ventilators were among the 116 patients in intensive care.

By the middle of April, the IDPH will provide a county-by-county update on the case rate per 100,000 people, the percentage of available ICU beds, and an average of COVID-19 diagnoses for hospital admissions and deaths per week over a rolling seven day period.

Admission to a hospital with a diagnosis of COVID-19 is defined as follows: The Illinois Syndromic Surveillance System's seven-day average of daily admissions with a diagnosis of COVID-19.

Illinois collects all emergency room and inpatient visits from all Illinois acute care hospitals in near-real time via syndromic surveillance. In order to allow for a diagnosis to be made, the data is presented three days after the fact.

A visit is counted at the county level based on where the patient lives. There will be a count for each time a patient visits. It's possible that COVID-19 isn't the primary reason for the increase in admissions. One source of COVID-19 hospital admissions is not another source of syndromic surveillance.

COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 22,432,221 people statewide so far, according to the IDPH's most recent vaccine distribution report released on Monday. As of Monday, 65.0 percent of Illinois residents had been vaccinated, or 8,281,143 people. The population of Illinois is 12,741,080.
