Mehmet Oz announced in December 2021 that he was running for president of the United States. His rise to prominence among Republicans has continued since then, with the Republican primary on May 17 just around the corner.
When the Trafalgar Group polled 1,074 likely Republican primary voters following Trump's endorsement, Oz came out on top with 22.7 percent, with McCormick in second place. A Franklin & Marshall poll, which was nearly complete when Trump announced his support, also put Oz in the lead. Oz was supported by 16 percent of the electorate.
Oz also has the most money raised among Republican candidates in the first three months of 2022, according to FEC Q1 financial filings. After receiving $13,431,080.20 total in donations since the beginning of his campaign, he has received $2.375 million in the first quarter.
Oz is not the only Republican candidate with over a $100 million in assets, but he did report that he has ties to his in-laws' tree-trimming business, which includes homes, stock, and life insurance. All Senate candidates are required to fill out a financial disclosure form.
Since he doesn't live in Pennsylvania, Oz has come under fire from the media. The place where he currently lives is New Jersey. His Turkish citizenship, which he says he will renounce before being sworn in as senator if he wins, has also gotten him into hot water with a key rival in the race for the nomination.
If elected, Oz promises to reverse Biden's failed policies, include financial literacy in education from an early age, secure the border to prevent "ghost flights" or flights with "illegal immigrants" from entering Pennsylvania airports, and support the Second Amendment.
